WELCOME MESSAGE
Mission Home Manja:
The Minor seminary of the Diocese of Diphu
.

Mission Home, Manja is the minor seminary of the diocese of Diphu. The Seminary is the only formation house in the diocese and is located in the countryside, 25 kilometers outside of Diphu at Manja.
Seminarians of mission Home Manja range generally range in age from their late 18s to 20s. Thanks to our Priests and religious these young people have entered the seminary as a result of an encounter with a priest who recognized a possible vocation. The danger is to deal with them as if they were just beginning students. I do believe that we've to learn how to benefit from their experience. We need to take that into account, in the classroom, spiritual direction, counseling and in our academic program.

With seminarians from the diocese and various parts of the country the diversity and cultures in the seminary is a great strength but also is a challenge. These young people come from communities and localities where massive ethnic conflicts have erupted in the past. Secondly most of the conflicts in the region during the last several years started in Manja, the small township close to Mission Home. In fact two years back it served as a relief camp for several hundreds of people.

We consider forming future priests who can collaborate well with lay people and others in the civil society is a great necessity and imperative of the Gospel. Hence, it is a challenge to help seminarians integrate the human formation, spiritual formation, intellectual formation and pastoral formation with special focus as peace builders of communities.
Human formation is the "necessary foundation" of priestly formation. Through regular conferences, the guided experience of community life, the students will be assisted in their growth as human persons and as followers of Jesus Christ. My endeavor to offer spiritual formation is centered in the Word of God and the sacramental life of the Church. Such devotions include Eucharistic Adoration, meditation on the Word of God, and devotion to Mary and the saints. Spiritual conferences and personal spiritual direction will provide the seminarian with guidance and necessary information as he enters more deeply into a relationship with God.
The students will be challenged with a breadth of understanding of past and present deeds, words, and ideas, and their interpretation within the heritage of the Catholic Church. The study of history, literature, theology, local languages, as well as courses in science, mathematics, education, and fine arts, provide a well-rounded program.
The Seminary provide a practical preparation for the ministry through a suitable pastoral apprenticeship. Through assignments in pastoral work appropriate to their level of formation, seminarians are given opportunities to exercise the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, to give of their time and energy in service, and to grow in their understanding of the role of the priest in service to the People of God.
Efforts are made so that these elements are not compartmentalized with a priest being "intellectual one minute, then pastoral another minute. One has to be spiritual in everything and the intellectual life has to help change what it means to be human and spiritual. All those things work together. That is not easy but a challenge.

Manja: A small parish

Mission Home is not just a Major Seminary. It is also a Sub centre of Diphu parish where more than 2,270 families live. The people belong to communities such as the Karbis, the Garos, the Adivasis, the Dimasas, the Kukis, Bodos, Nepalese, Manipuris, Assamese and the Bengalese. It is indeed a complex mixture of communities and cultures.
The seminary is also involved in various pastoral, social and activities for the people. It is our endeavor to deepen the faith of our Catholic communities, to form platforms of all communities through Manja Citizens Peace Forum and Manja Churches Forum. It is worth mentioning that these two associations were formed two years back with the active work of our Peace Team. These two forums have prevented also the ethnic conflicts at Manja and am hopeful that we will do our best to act as catalysts of our people in the days to come.
